Detect if firmware is running on ATxmega32A4 or 32A4U
A4U has USB, whereas A4 don’t. So to me it seems that the easiest way to detect A4U is to test USB registers.

XMEGA can remap some outputs, e.g. USART. See REMAP register in which you can choose on which pin USART signals should appear.
