Difference between mega88 and mega48 causing problem?
The code uses 5 RAM variables using a grand total of 5 bytes, so we're definitely not running out of space there. All other variables are in registers. There is a circular buffer...

FYI I just saw a Studio 4.16 SP1 build on Atmel's beta ware site. The release notes do not mention this bug being fixed. I will download & try it just to see.
