Hi I use this one I replaced the FTDI USB chip with a simple max rs232, so i use it simply as a serial programmer, works just like an AVRISP

try lowering the ISP freqency under the Board Tab, to something lower than 1/4 of CPU freq, maybe the internal RC oscillator is set too low.

insystem programming ATmega 128
on mega128 til programming ports isen't the spi port but the pins PE0 PE1 PB1 and reset theres a note on it in the mega128 datasheet too.
