isn't the SPI programming inteface disabled by default ? Tried high voltage ? ususally the answer if you mess up the fuse settings :)

Measuring Angle
stepper motor could also be a good solution as well as servo. If you get a good servo, the angle should be dahm precise .

They could have replaced some of the SPI's with other stuff, like CAN , ETH etc. then the chip would have been great :) But still a pretty nice chip, looking forward to testing it.
