Those aren't the FatFS files...that looks more like the native ASF files. In any case, I find FatFS to have more intuitive function calls, but it does require some work to get it...

ASF and ATmega
I like the ASF for UC3 micros. They're complex enough that I don't really want to write my own code for each peripheral, it'd take forever. Granted, some of the earlier ASF code...
