So, you see some rules: bits does counts.   If you are sure that reg1 does have 4 lowest bits '0', then ADD and OR with 4 bits reg2 will do the same.

Controlling DC motor speed
Mega16 does have 4 OC pins, one is on Timer0 and Timer2, two on Timer1.   Use PD5 (OC1A) and PD4 (OC1B) if you like to separate motors.
