How the ICE and/or Studio decides wether to use JTAG or PDI ?
(if using devices with PDI AND JTAG, like XMEGA192A3)

Surely there's a drop down to select this?

JTAG must be doing some tests when it starts debugging to see which mode it is supposed to run with. I would not worry.

because I have some problems getting debugging with JTAG running, but PDI works fine..... Hardware related stuff
? perhaps with the Reset line on the JTAG interface ?

So do you have 2 headers, one for PDI and one for JTAG on your board?

Did you turn off the JTAGEN fuse perhaps?

No... I can see all Fuses in the programming dialog (also via JTAG) and the JTAG fuse is enabled (JTAG ON)
programming seems to work, but verifying shows that there is something wrong... on the Xplain board, JTAG rules as it should.....

checked the Xplain shematic amd my one and I can see, that Pin 8 of the JTAG header is connected to the PDI_DATA line on the Xplain, but is n.c. on my board....
perhaps the JTAG must first tell the device that it would use JTAG via PDI ?

I don't really know the ins and out. I just know that if I connect the Xplain in PDI mode I can debug and program and if I connect it in JTAG mode it just works that way.
