I'm working on a project for a smart energy meter which uses the ATM90E36A chip.
After reading the documentation that is available on this chip I have some doubts and I'd be pleased if some of you guys could help me out.
- In the voltage sampling circuit, are the phase lines supposed to be connected directly in the resistors arrays? (Taking as base the App. Note nº 050514) My understanding is that this is exactly what I'm supposed to do, but I'm a little afraid of doing the wrong thing and damaging my circuit.
- As far as my understanding of the IC goes, if I want to monitor energy consumption, I have two options: either utilizing the PWMs at the CF outputs, or by constantly reading current, voltage, power/energy registers and utilizing their reading values. Am I right? If so, is there a preferred method to keep track of energy consumption?
- I understand that the calibration process is mandatory for a correct field operation, but as for the first time turning the system on, can I just configure the thresholds and general IC behavior registers, and turn it on? Without going through any calibrating process?
