Hi .. need some help

Had older version of Studio 7 that did not support a CPU I needed.  Did the wed install.  CPU still not supported.

Uninstalled Studio 7.

Downloaded latest version of Studio 7 as listed on website ... 7.0.1188.

It installed fine.  CPU needed was supported and compiled perfectly.

But now my JTAGICE will not update in order that I can use it.   Checked for updates. Problem seems to be USB based and listed as an update.  But the web installer wants to do a full blown download again!!!   What the $$$.

I just need the jtag problem fixed.  No time to do another full download.   Any clues how to fix this?

Thanx

So issue is indeed a Studio problem

D:\Documents>atfw -t jtagice3 -a "C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Studio\7.0\tools\JTAGICE3\jtagice3_fw.zip"

Found jtagice3:J30200002287
Upgrading jtagice3:J30200002287
GenericError thrown during firmware upgrade
USB driver attach timed out

So does not a small simple file fix this issue?

#define RANT_mode

{

What bugs me is that the current full download from Atmel site is dated September 2016.   Its clearly old and NOT suitable for download. ( I blew up my old pc, so new pc and latest windows 10 - all fresh installs)

During install from this file, it states that there is a newer version!!  But clearly this newer version is only obtainable via the web download.    But you only find this out after 800Meg of download.   I did try this update on my older install of 7.0, but it failed to update properly.

So now I must download another huge web install that ought be fixed with a small patch file.    What a waist of time and data.  Not impressed.   Is this maybe a Microchip influence?

So did a further update  ... 500 Megs download later ... and guess what ... 3.2a to 3.35 = FAILED

D:\Documents>atfw -t jtagice3 -a "C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Studio\7.0\tools\JTAGICE3\jtagice3_fw.zip"
Found jtagice3:J30200002287
Upgrading jtagice3:J30200002287

and then Atmel backend has stopped working.

Still cant use my programmer.    Two days later and way behind in my work.

Thing is .. everything on current PC worked just fine (other than compatibility issue with one CPU) with older version of Studio 7.     So its just this latest version and its updates that do not work with my jtagice3.

The earlier failure took some time, this time its does fail a lot quicker.  So update has got me a quicker failure!

My JTAGICE3 also works after a firmware-upgrade.

My word ... latest software not on actual Atmel site.

Ok .. I actually got the upgrade to ice done ....   took the manual install file plus the firmware updates for jtagice3 from install directory and copied files to a Studio 6.2 install on a laptop.  Using the old 6.2, I was able to flash the new firmware to ice.

This has been a painful exercise.   Thanx Microchip.

latest software not on actual Atmel site.

Only because Microchip now owns Atmel so things are likely to move over.
