Hi All,
I have switched from PIC to AVR in the last six months(I know, I should have seen the light years ago!)
I am getting to the stage that I am more comfortable with the AVR then the PIC. The AVR rocks! javascript:emoticon(':D')

I was surprised though, when the other day when I felt the need to do a trace on the simulator, when I found that that is only possible using the ICE50 javascript:emoticon(':(')????

I would have thought that it would be fairly straightforward to have a trace output on the simulator, without ICE and/or targets attached.
PIC's MPLab does this beautifully! It would be a very nice addition to AVRStudio. javascript:emoticon('') I do miss it!

Lee

PS. I will out how to use Emoticons one of these days!

I'll have it with a sip of scotch to soothe the nerves...all that C programming has finished off my sanity!!

Guys,

do you any useful comment to the topic? It's good to know that John can add all smiles but to solve Lee's question the scotch might be more appropriate - but does not help either

Cheers
Knut

NO, because there is NOTHING else to add, Lee was clever enough to figure it out by himself. :no_emoticon:

Thanks Guys,
I have just calmed myself with a Glen Livett!
Th reason why I am interested is that we have switched to the AVR at the Uni where I work and I am involved with teaching it.
The trace is nice to have for students to follow what is going on!

It seems to me, that all it needs is to set up watch with the variables that are required to be watched & whenever there is a change to this variables that they are written to a log file, along with cycle counter & perhaps time, send to a trace file or display in a window. It would not be a big deal to do by the coders of AVRStudio! It certainly does not require any hardware.

After the Glen Livett, I have no emotion left to show.

Regards,

Lee

There is an SDK for development of plugins to Studio by third parties. You might want to explore whether adding such a trace is possible via the APIs that are exposed there?

See? Not a wasted thread after all, never heard of Glenlivit up to now. (But I have lived a sheltered life...)

Don't know if this nerve medication is available at the local "chemist" but I'll keep an eye out for it.

It's a nice one. (I've been to the brewery - heaven on earth)

Though I think I preferred my visit to Glenfarclas http://www.glenfarclas.co.uk/ - their "cask strength" 105 is the nectar of the Gods: http://www.glenfarclas.co.uk/en/...
