Where is Atmels free TCP/IP stack ???

Now that Microchip has come out with their free TCP/IP stack, i am condering why Atmel seems to be behind the ball with this. there are so many manuf. doing at least some kind of TCP/IP these days why has not Atmel done it? I know they came out with their own Network kit many years ago but that project has been dead for a long time now. Anyone got any ideas why they are not venturing into this area?

Atmel had a stack which came together with the EIT (Embedded Internet Toolkit).
The code was awful to say the least, source could not be published obviously, it was bug ridden and it sucked so bad you really don't want to use it.
Use the Ethernut stack instead. I've used it in several projects. It works perfectly, is reasonably well documented and has a huge user base and community where you get questions answered in hours.
I still have two year old unanswered questions about the Atmel stack. Not that I really care anymore, I wouldn't touch that stuff with a 10k resistor.

I agree with you 100%
i tried the Ethernut today but had compile problems, even though i followed the directions. i send an e-mail to the forum for help. awaiting a reply. i just would rather not have to learn another OS.

I wish Micochip did not copywright it to their brand only :cry: but i understand why they did.

Well, yeah, uip is pretty good, but suffers from problems with transfer speed due to the ultra compact implementation.
If you're low on memory, both flash and ram, uip is great. If you want a full TCP/IP stack with all the fringes and extra stuff like UDP, PPP, DHCP/BOOTP, NTP, HTTP, e.t.c.NutOS/Net is the way to go.

FreeRtos has an AVR port , and has an ip stack (at least for the ARM's) maybe possible to port to a M128
