Hey there,

I'm looking for a multimeter that I can record discrete voltage samples with.

Basically I need to measure the operating voltage for a few hundered PCBs and I wish to have some sort of automated handheld tool so I can probe one pcb at a time (press a button to record the voltage), then at the end of measurement dump these values to a PC for evaluation / recording purposes.

I'm looking for an off the shelf solution. Accuracy doesn't need to be fantastic, 1mV resolution is fine (over a 10V range). Measuring straight DC.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. (I'm not looking for a DIY project here).

A Fluke 187 has a PC interface (IR interface I believe). A Fluke 45 is a bench multimeter that has RS232 and optionally GPIB.

I guess these are quite expensive for what you need though.

nice bit of kit that jayjay.

Only problem is this spec

I happen to had both available to me at my last job, but I never used the communication features; so these came up in my mind first :)

Maybe you could use one of those ADC cards that you can stick into a PC? This looks like one of those applications perfectly suited to Labview and such.

Try plugging "portable datalogger" into google and see what comes up (no, I didn't, I don't know what will come up).

1mV in 10V is an 80dB range, thats bloody accurate!

You're right rberger, thats quite accurate. pulled that figure from out of thin air.

Lets drop that accuracy then to 20mV resolution over 10V.

Looking for portable solution so adc card not really the go here.

any takers?
