There is a bug in studio beta 6.2.993, when inside a freshly installed studio it is impossible to start a debug session using the internal debugger, whatever the parametres in project.
Once an AVRISP mkII has been inserted and selected a s tool, it is possible to come back to simulator ( even if the mkII is not present any more) and the debug session can be started.

With the initial installation no debug tools is shown in the tool bar. After mkII insertion and simulator selection, the last one is shown on the tool bar.

Regards,
Pierre

Why aren't you talking to Atmel support about this?

:: Morten

(yes, I work for Atmel, yes, I do this in my spare time, now stop sending PMs)

Because I thought that AVR Freaks was the proper channel.

Can you tell me how to report a bug?

avr@atmel.com - when you emil that it automatically opens a "support ticket"

BTW you are wrong. I have never connected my AS6.2B to a physical programmer and I happily use the simulator.

However 6.2B has changed compared to previous 6.x. It used to be the case that if you just started a project, typed some code, built it then clicked the "start and break" icon that AS6 would throw a dialog saying "no target selected, which of these would you like to use?" and if you had not other devices it would just list simulator and nothing else.

In 6.2 this is different. If you try to start/break it just throws a messagebox to say "no target selected". It does not offer the opportunity to pick one at that point. What you must do is go to the project properties and on the Tool tab you must select simulator in the drop list there.

Now when you start/break it will.

Thanks for info.

I am sorry to think that I am not wrong, since:

I got the message box: "no target selected", went to the project properties, selected simulator ... and I always got the message box! too bad.
No debuuger tool was shown on the tool bar, although I do selected one in the project box.

Pierre

I would suspect your installation is broken in some way. As I say it works. Try reinstalling.
