Hi,

I want to make a touch panel which sends command to a uc. I have searched but do not know what to use. I found a 4-wire resistive touch screen by the size of 240*128 but have to combine it with a graphical lcd. Is it the logical way? BTW, what is the size of the screen 240*128 in inches?
I also found that there are some chips which make it easy to interface with the touch screen such as AD7877 and AD7873. Are they necessary for controlling the touch screen.
There is a chip SSD1963 and was wondering if I could use it for touch screen?
Thanks.

Well you either by the screen and touchpad separately and for the latter you then use the ADC in the micro to read it - in effect it acts like a variable resistor that can vary the voltage you read depending on where you prod it. Or for an easier life maybe buy a screen and touch interface combined. Such as something like this:

Note that this one, for example:

has an ADS7843 touchscreen driver IC on board to make things real easy the four wire tail from the touchscreen go into the chip and it then has an ADC that muxes between the inputs and reads the channels.
