Was thinking about getting one of these for occasional after construction re-programming...

Any one got one? Good/bad/is there something else equivalent?

Any ideas for connecting the RJ-12 to something more "AVR" - or just cut it off and rewire to an ISP 6-pin connector?

You seem to have guessed right. :) But I know of someone thinkering with the idea of something similar. It may even be the same cable. (not me by the way)

Tag-Connect now sell the TC2030-IDC Plug-of-Nails cable which is exactly what you need with a 6-pin ribbon conector. You can purchase it on the Tag-Connect website.

Top Tips:

  1. How to properly post source code - see: https://www.avrfreaks.net/comment... - also how to properly include images/pictures
  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected

I have two.

They seem to work OK.

Four legs good, two legs bad, three legs stable.

There are several active threads on the topic of ISP connectors, and these are often suggested.

I had one that worked great with my AVRISP mkii.

Got one to work w/ the Atmel-ICE, and had somewhat less success....
