Hi guys,

I think I may have popped my dragon, i think it got 9V into the Target Voltage pin.

What are the symptoms? I can't get it to read my target chip, it says

"Setting device parameters.. OK!
Entering programming mode.. FAILED!
Leaving programming mode.. OK!"

I know the chip works because I reprogrammed it with HVP and checked the SPIE was on using the STK500

And surely the cip should have blown at the same time :?

Thanks

What is the voltage on the dragon's Vcc connected to your PC USB with no MCU attached ? Does Studio recognize the dragon and it's sign. ?

1) Studio 4.18 build 716 (SP3)
2) WinAvr 20100110
3) PN, all on Doze XP... For Now
A) Avr Dragon ver. 1
B) Avr MKII ISP, 2009 model
C) MKII JTAGICE ver. 1

with or without the isp vtg and ground pins connected to the Target board?

without, 0v.
with 5v.

I don't understand the sign question? but my pc does detect the dragon. it even let me run a software upgrade on it. :?

Sign = signature ( ok, it won't detect the dragon ), and for your voltages listed, it's with power coming from the target, right ? I meant if you connect JUST the dragon ( NO target ) to a PC USb, you should get 5V on the dragon's Vcc header pin.

The bottom line is the clk and data out should wiggle when it says 'send me your signature', and the data in should wiggle when it answers back. There is a TVS on all those pins and a couple years back are some photos of which TVS packs go to which ISP pins. Ohm from the data in pins to all the TVS pins, then see if that one is shorted to gnd.

I'll try find the page. Here's a wierd one, can someone test this for me on their own?

If I do a Diode test with my multimeter ( that mode that beeps if there is a short), between reset and gnd, it beeps. is this normal?

MY dragon is an A.0601.3.1000.C

And the Voltage header supplies 5V.

I get 1460 red to gnd, 530 blk to gnd
