I've been trying out Studio 6, I really like it. I've run into some problems. First, I cannot uninstall Studio 5 or 6 from Add/Remove programs. Nothing happens when I click change or remove. I'm using XP SP3. Next problem came when I tried to update to the new release of Studio 6. Now I don't have the New->Example project menu or the ASF explorer. I can't do anything with the ASF now.

There was an uncommon but nasty glitch in the ASF installer (packaged within the AS6 installer) which could cause it to not install properly in some cases. There are patched builds of the installer available internally I can probably get to you after I get permission to release them, but a re-install usually fixes it.

As for the uninstall failure of AS5, I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions on that.

Uninstall and reinstall did not fix it. I even tried removing all traces of Studio 6 entries in my registry, and the Studio directories in my home directory. No go.

Also, I had the beta release installed and it never got properly uninstalled.

I would certainly appreciate any help you can offer, Dean. (I see you are still in Trondheim, man do I envy you!)

EDIT:

I've been reinstalling again this morning, I'm noticing that the installer stalls out on the ASF and seems to be taking an extraordinarily long time to complete.

Ok, I managed to fix it. I copied the AVR_ASF.msi installer out of my temp directory and ran it separately. Everything is ok now.

Thanks!

I just installed Studio 6 on my home laptop (running XP SP3) and none of the Visual Studio extensions (vsix) got installed by the main installer program. The ASF also did not install. This laptop has never had Studio 5 or 6 beta installed on it. It does have AVR Studio 4.19 and WinAVR installed.

Another thing, will Studio ever be able to watch temporary variables that reside in registers? That's always been the most annoying thing about AVR Studio. If I remember correctly, avr-gdb doesn't have any problem watching on register variables.

That's a new one, and a rather unacceptable one at that. I've not heard of that specific problem before (no VSIX extentions *at all*) so please file a bug report on it in the tracker. The missing ASF extension is a known issue however than has been corrected in an internal build -- but you can usually re-install AS6 to fix it in the meantime.
