Hello,

I just installed Studio 5 and get a message:

Invalid license data. Reinstall is required.

I am installing on to a Windows XP platform running under vmware workstation. I have updated to XP SP3 as required by the visual studio installer. I have uninstalled the studio 5 app, and reinstalled it, but the same error message pops up when I start.

Any ideas to resolve this issue?

thanks

Richard

Is your Windows copy "genuine"?

Wild speculation (or even conspiracy theory): AVR Studio 5 relies heavily on an IDE/Editor framework from Microsoft - the same that MS uses themselves for Visual Studio. As a (bundle of?) Microsoft component(s)they something in there might check for "genuineness" of the Windows install.

If I'm correct (but I sure hope I'm not!) then you might get the same error if trying yo install Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition. Since you have Windoze in a virtual machine you could perhaps run a copy of it and test this conspiracy theory of mine.

Please understand that my negativeness for such a solution, if at all true, does not stem from any opinion that software piracy is OK. I just feel that measures like this are the wrong way to solve piracy. Remember the root-kit from ... was it Sony?

And again, I'm speculating wildly. And I sure hope I am wrong.

And: Has anyone actually tried to run AS5 under Mono?

As of January 15, 2018, Site fix-up work has begun! Now do your part and report any bugs or deficiencies here

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.

It is an MSDN license key used to activate the windows, and it does pass the WGA test on the Microsoft site.

I have installed and have running Microsoft security essentials which also validates the OS legitimacy.

I am downloading VB 2010 Express now and will update after it installs...

Please run the following command.
AVRStudio.exe /log

from Start -> Run

Paste/Attach the contents of the file %appdata%\Microsoft\AppEnv\10.0\ActivityLog.xml

I suspect that the registry entries for the Shell might be either corrupted or deleted. I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio Isolated Shell 2010 then AVR Studio 5.0.

Did the installer prompted for a restart after .NET or Shell installation ?
