Hi all,

I have an STK500 with an unpopulated obsolete AT45D021 pad. I am about to place a Digikey order and was wondering, firstly, is there a goodie to put there, and secondly, of what use would this goodie be?

Use the search function here at 'freaks. Good search term is "STK500 dataflash AT45D021" and remember to tick Search for all terms. A good short list of hits, and the essence seems to me to be that there is no direct replacement that is 5 volt tolerant.

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.

Search for all terms gives me no hits. Search for any gives me a lot of irrelevant posts from gasbags like myself.

Someone visiting China did get some a few years ago and offered them to people here.
Maybe someone still has a spare that they can part with.

The datasheet for the "mature" AT45D021A states that it is a "5-volt Only" device.
The STK500 schematic has the DataFlash connected to 5V VCC and direct SPI
connections to the AT90S8535 ports.

Newer DataFlash devices would need their own 3.xV VCC supply and SPI level translation.
