I have gotten some good advice on this page and have decided to use the SPI standard to get data from an ADC (MAX145 or MAX111). I am using Codevision AVR. Does anybody have any program-examples on the two ADCs mentioned?
I have never used SPI standard before and I have some questions:
- How intelligent is the system? I don't know which signals to make in the program and which signals from the AVR to the ADC that are automatically generated. Can't seem to finf any good documentation on this.
I will be thankful for some answers.

Generally when I am in that situation, I slap a logic probe or scope on the pins in question, and then run the code (or a snip of it that should generate a repeating pattern), and just watch what happens till it looks right, then add the rest of the components.

If you are desperate for tools, an led/resistor, or even an analog volt meter will do the trick as well to watch for pulse trains.
