I have just updated AS to above and tools also updated when connected.  I now have the issue that I can't exit debugwire mode on boards that I previously could.  Same symptoms using ICE or ICE3.  Anyone else seen this?

Are you powering the board from the HW Programmer?

External power, bypass cap on power rail, 10k pullup on reset. Boards working in debugwire mode but can't get out of it.  All working prior to tool firmware update.

I'll move the thread to the Studio forum, it could be a Studio bug.

Maybe a timing issue, have you tried tuning the R and C values a little?

The reset pullup is standard and 0.1uF decoupling cap across the power rail is also standard they are not in an RC network.

I had some time to investigate today and found the cause of the problem.  It was the ribbon cable from the ICE to the adaptor.  I had used the same cable with ICE and JTAGICE3 as it was 'easier'.  The faulty cable connector ends just needed a little 'manipulation'.  Anyone know a source for spare?
