My Studio 7 usually rips through compiling, but I can see it now run each command almost like slow motion. rm -rf main.o, then rm-rf main.d, etc., etc., It went from <1s to 23s. I didn't see any update stuff, but my computer was restarted and asking me about linking my phone to Windows so I wonder if there is a Windows update causing this issue...
Slow compiling - win10 update issue maybe?
Windows 10 1803?
If yes, major issues with some Intel and Toshiba SSDs.
That was it, I reverted back to 10.0.16299.431 and it compiles super fast again.
Glad that problem is solved.

(ETA for Toshiba SSD Windows 10 1803 defect, hot PC due to excessive CPU usage, is early June)
As soon as I recovered from it, it wanted to reinstall itself. I had to download the MS tool to hide it so it doesn't try to do that automatically. System has a Samsung 960 SSD, though honestly the problem seems to be the finishing/closing of a process. I could open a command prompt, but type exit and enter and you sit there waiting for it to close for some odd reason. I wonder if that is what causes the slowness in Studio, waiting for processes to close and return their status, again and again.
I had to download the MS cool to hide it so it doesn't try to do that automatically.

That was the tool all right.
Long waits are often a result of processes waiting for some network activity that is not accessible. You don't have a drive mapped to a network share or anything like that do you?
(one possible version of that is if your "documents" are somehow mapped to Microsoft's cloud drive service (forget what it's called))
That is a good thought clawson, I do have one network drive mapped at the system level (64 bit), but no drives mapped at the 32 bit level (I think it is somewhat emulated). Is Studio a 64-bit application or 32-bit?
Microsoft (finally) releases this month’s second cumulative update for Win10 1803, KB 4100403 — and it claims to fix both of the acknowledged solid state drive bugs @ AskWoody

I'm doing some testing today with a 10 year old desktop. Win10 upgraded to 1803. It looks good so far. I have an Intel SSD. I notice I can still defer updates just like earlier versions of Win10.
Is in win10 pro? I think it is the home version that doesn't make deferral easy. Does your 1803 compile quickly in AS7?
It is pro. I read that someone said after updating to 1803, that capability disappeared.
I don't have Studio installed on this machine.
I have noticed something strange on my main computer running 1709. Starting about 1 month ago, programs I wrote many years ago and that I use daily no longer popped up immediately after clicking on the shortcut. There would be a delay of 10 seconds before popping up. A few days ago the delay went away and now the programs pop up immediately again.
I read that someone said after updating to 1803, that capability disappeared.

For corporate patchers a new bug has just come up on my radar, Intel nics and Vlans broken after 1803. Checking to see if the June intel driver release fixes this.
