Sine Wave 0 to 10KHz using 12 bit DAC

Dear All

I hav started with a project in which I had to Generate a sine wave o/p from 1- 5KHz. I had searched for the right resources and finally found the Xmega family Controller have 12-bit DAC with optional DMA access.

But the thing I was slightly confused is, In the datasheet it is given that DAC has 12-bit resolution with max one million samples per second. But in 5 KHz o/p in 12- bit resolution, the samples would go far more than max given.

Am I right or making it complicated. Also what I presumed is that in higher frequencies the resolution can be reduced to 8-bit.

Looking for your suggestions on the same

That. You either run it at the 1MHz rate and output 100's of copies of the same value for each step in the 4096 range or run it a slower rate and update less often.
