Can anyone suggest a simple WiFi module for sending raw ethernet frames.

With sample driver code for connecting to a UC3 or Mega AVR microcontroller using SPI or UART without any RTOS?

Ethernet sends ethernet frames, wifi sends wifi frames. The esp8266 is probably the cheapest, it has serial to wifi firmware or you can roll your own. It also has native Arduino support.

What do you mean roll your own firmware? can the modules TCP/IP stack be bypassed? Is there Arduino code to show this?

Anyone recommend atwilc1000 or atwinc1500. I know atwinc1500 is supported by Arduino as well, not sure if the TCP/IP stack can be bypassed though.

atwilc1000 sounds ideal but I have found no suitable driver.

Microchips MRF24 series I see are considered mature products now, so they are out.
