I bought some header pin strips from Digikey. They were various sizes. Some were single, others were double. All were made by 3M. All had longer tails than normal, although I guess that's not significant.

All have sharp "barbs" on the ends of the pins. They snag everything including fingers. I file them down.

What's up with that?

Here's a picture. The sharp ones are on the top. Normal ones on the bottom.

Were your header strips very cheap ?

The obvious solution is to use the proper end as the pin and crop the sharp bit off. Or ask your barber if he would sell them as hair combs. Any profit could be sent to Digikey.

UK suppliers like RS and Farnell will replace faulty items like that, Digi-Key probably has a similar policy.

I ordered three different part numbers and all the pins are sharp. I have a feeling all the 3M ones are like this. This is very strange.

I suppose Digikey could replace them with another brand. It might be easier though just to file off the points.

I believe 3M has a good reputation. They make Scotch tape so they must be good. :) Old timers might call them Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing.

Of course everything is made in Chine these days, but if 3M puts their name on it, they ought to check the quality.
