Hi,

My client use Atmel SAM7A3 in an application.
Code size is growing beyond 32k that IAR limit evaluation version to.
So he's looking for another compiler.
Was surprised to find out that SAM7 is unsupported in Studio6.
Someone have a good explanation as to why?

And possibly alternative compiler solutions for SAM7?

Frankly, because of limited developer resources; the current focus is improving and adding support for the newer devices. Perhaps one day support for old devices will be added, but I do not believe it is a priority.

You can use free unrestricted GCC toolchains for the SAM7 devices, such as YAGARTO. No debugging, but they'll compile just fine.

Dean,

Thanks for your fast answer.
Do you possibly have any information regarding if SAM7 is reaching end of production in near future?

I honestly have no idea (that's marketing, I'm just a code monkey) but I'm afraid even if I did know I wouldn't be allowed to release that sort of information (unless I wanted to be insta-fired). If you're worried ask your sales representative and they'll relay you the latest official answer that's been passed through the lawyer and product marketing gauntlet.
