Hi All,

I am using  RDM6300 125KHz RFID cardreader ,i connected it Direct to PC using Serial to USB Converter(only TX and ground used in reader) and i try to read RFID tag on  "TeraTerm" (serial terminal)

but i got value but  i can't understand what is the relation between the value i got it on "TeraTerm" and  Number Written on tag.

My tag Number is "0008813794" and i got on Screen when i swab the tag on reader is "uy,"

Please advise

What is your serial to usb converter?

When working with serial terminals you have to set the baudrate right.

You are expecting a string of 10 (or more) charakter, but you are receiving only 2 characters of "garbage".

This (vaguely) suggest that the baudrate used in TeraTerm is at leas 4x too slow, probably 6x or 8x.

You mean this:

RDM6300 125KHz cardreader mini-module is designed for reading code from 125KHz card compatible read-only tags and read/write card . It can be applied in office/home security, personal identification, access control, anti-forgery, interactive toy and produ

For technical support, please open a ticket on Itead Support System.

The Wiki page is pretty uninformative - lacking even basic info like baud rate.

I couldn't see a datasheet on either the main product page, or in the Wiki.

But the Wiki does provide a link to:

http://zjembedded.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/rdm6300-rfid-with-pic18-dev-board.html

Which tells you that the baud rate is 9600.

It also shows you examples of the data received - which are not simply the Tag ID in text format!

And it does have a link to a datasheet:

EDIT

Although that blog does say it is about the RDM6300, the linked datasheet is for an RDM630.

You will have to contact itead (highlighted above) to confirm what the differences are, and/or request the proper datasheet ...

But, presumably, as "Zach" (the blogger) managed to get it working - I guess the information must be sufficient?

You could post a question in the 'Comments' section on the blog - as many others have ...

EDIT 2

Simply putting "RDM6300" into google gives About 49,700 results - including some Arduino stuff, more blogs, and videos.

Still didn't see a datasheet, though.

  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected
