Actually, the link is broken, but the real one is "only" two clicks away.

Please feel free to erase this post when you fix the link.

Hats off to the Atmel folks!

A known bugs list. Thank you!

As of January 15, 2018, Site fix-up work has begun! Now do your part and report any bugs or deficiencies here

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.

Cool...since the full release is now out, but there are no bugs listed here, that must mean there are no bugs!

Awesome!!!

;)

(Just kidding--the link wouldn't come up for me at first, but now it worked.)

I believe this thread should/could now be retreated (i.e. remove the stickie'ness). In it's place we need a sticky post with a link to the Atmel Studio 6 (RTM) Bugzilla.

Howaboutit, Eric/Dean?

EDIT: I actually had some obviously feeble attempts trying to find a post here where I know the link has been given, but I failed miserably...

This is where you go to file bugs for the Atmel Software Framework and Atmel Studio 6:

"I may make you feel but I can't make you think" - Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick

"void transmigratus(void) {transmigratus();} // recursio infinitus" - larryvc

I've been using AVR Studio 6 for the past couple of weeks now and I have some issues and suggestions regarding the IDE rather than the software framework.

Would the above link be the best place to post my findings or is there a better place to do so?

Thanks,
K

To report the issues specific to Studio select Product as "Atmel Studio 6" while creating a new bug in http://asf.atmel.com/bugzilla/

I have tried to use AVR Studio 6 but it just doesn't work. Whenever File New Project is selected, Studio 6 crashes

I have been using AVR32 Studio at work for awhile and it has working OK. We also use AVR Studio 4 for an ATTINY, and that environment seems ancient compared to eclipse. Just installed Atmel Studio 6 and it just seems no good. When stopping my JTAGICE mkII, it crashes the IDE (which I reported).

Is AVR Studio 5 stable???
Why move away from the all powerful eclipse, especially when providing free tools? I would love to know why.

Yep. and not only moving away but moving to Microsoft where you know the products are bad. Sounds like AVR Studio 4.19 is going to keep being used for some time.

I would expect Atmel Studio 6 to be more stable and bug free, in general, as compared to AVR Studio 5. As far as AVRs is concerned Atmel Studio 6 is really only an AVR Studio 5.2, but the thing got a new shiny name since the addition of ARM support was deemed substantial enough to grant a new major version number (and of course it could no longer be named "AVR Studio" since it now supports more than just AVRs).

Several of us did air our disappointment when it was revealed that the AVR Studio 4 successor would not be cross-platform but rather more tied to Windows operating environments. If it makes you feel beter to rant a little, then do (I felt good at the time ). Asking Atmel about the reasons for the decision is quite meaningless IMHO, though. 1) The will of-course not reveal why they took that decision. 2) They will not change it now.

I would not even expecct this to change for the next major-major, i.e. Atmel Studio 7. And even if, then this might be five years away, and then we might all be in Cortex-M3 land anyway, where the debug protocols are less closed, and there is an abundance of tool chain and IDE alternatives.

My advice: Accept. Move on.

We can't open a new project without AVR Studio 6 - not sure how anyone can call that stable. And after three weeks still no reply here, from the avr email or twitter. Good one Atmel - no wonder Microchip are worth twice as much.

I installed AVR Studio 5.1 and it is working better for me.

JohanEkdahl, you mentioned AVR Studio 5.2, I could only find 5.1. Is there another place to find AVR Studio besides the archive link from the Atmel Studio 6.0 page on the Atmel site.

Nevermind, I went to dinner with AVR Studio 5.1 running (not in debug) and came back to the blue screen of death. Only other program running was firefox so I am going to bet it was AVR Studio 5.1(windows 7).

There was no AVR Studio 5.2. You misunderstood Johan's post, read it again. :)

OK, managed to get AVR Studio to run now. Had the attached error message on installation. Seems to work well now except for the error message[/img]

Oh right, he means 6 is the really just the next version after 5.1 which would be 5.2, with ARM support. Never mind.

Has anyone integrated the latest atmel tools with the latest version of eclipse? Is there any lost functionality compared with AVR32 studio? Any issues?

Well, given that I (and some people from India when I found my whip) have been the sole maintainer/followup link on it, then YES :)

And look at the title of the thread - we are long past this beta!!

Hello,

I have a problem with "AVR Dragon" and "Studio V6.2".
Debug mode does not work.
The target program is loaded correctly.

A message is sent by the debugger:
"Failed launch program error: ... An unknown error occurred LeaveProgMode Debugger command failed"
Windows System 8.1 Memory: 4 GB.
Processor: Celeron 1.86 GHz frequency. Two cores. Use "USB 2"
Work with ATMega32A.
Target Crystal: 6Mhz, freq "AVR Dragon" 200Khz dragon.

With Windows XP SP3, debug mode has always worked properly.
The target hardware was not changed from XP to Win8.1.
All reviews of this forum have not solved my problem.

Thank you in advance for your help  and Merry Christmas to all.

Again, look at the date and title of the original post: it's about the "beta release of Atmel Studio 6" - and that's well over two and a half years ago!

I think it's about time this thread was locked?
