Hi, I want to remove Atmel Studio user data and make a new/clean installation of AS7. When I have tried to do a normal uninstall and install sequence I end up with my old settings. I have done several attempts and my AV7 installation is really messed up. I want a fresh start. I am using Windows 10

You reset the settings of Atmel Studio by launching it with -ResetSettings

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately my installation is still messed up. I am f.ex unable to load an example project. When studio stats the error "Image Service Package" package did not load correctly + ServiseProviderImplementations package did not load correctly +++

And if I double clic on a source file notepad is opened. I have tried to reinstall AS7 several times but the errors are still here.

Uninstall Atmel Studio, and uninstall Microsoft Visual Studio Shell 2015 (Isolated). Then reinstall Atmel Studio.

Would I be right to say that there's potentially more success to be had downloading the complete install package and using that rather than doing an install from the net?

No, not really smiley

The only difference between the two is that the full installer is told to package everything up into 1 archive, while the web installer isnt (i.e the URLs of the different components are left as download urls).

You can even convert a web to a full installer by calling the web installer with -layout...

I have now uninstalled both Atmel Studio and Microsoft Visual Studio Shell 2015 (Isolated), then installed Atmel Studio.

during first startup this message appears:

Atmel Studio is loading user settings

Then Vola

The same old error messages comes on the screen.

I think you might be surprised if you were to track this - when you get support requests about installation failures ask them if it was "full" or "net" install. My belief is that M$ are a bit piss-poor at net installs and if anything "interrupts" communication during the process they are not great at recovering. So you then get all these reports of folks starting Studio and getting warnings about "something is missing". If they download the full thing first then install then it should run to completion.

This is just wild conjecture based on some experience but it would be interesting to quantify it!

We're not seeing that... All the downloadable parts are well hashed so the installer aborts if any of the components fails. Inside each component, all the files are also hashed so there's many layers of checksums (I would claim that this contributes to the slowness of installs).
.
Back on topic, do you get the same errors? Those packages that you mentioned are not from Atmel Studio but from the shell (the Visual Studio part that we base on). So it points to something being bad with the Visual Studio part.
.
Did you really (just asking so that we're completely sure) uninstall the Isolated Shell?

Yes I uninstalled the Isolated Shell. And yes I get the same error messages.

Isn´t there any way to make sure I get a new fresh installation? I have uninstalled any trace i am able to find from Atmel Sudio going back to version 5.0

I have even installed Microsoft Visual Studio and then uninstalled it again.

1) Install Visual Studio Isolated shell by double clicking on it
https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.c...

2) Install KB https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.c...

To clean up the configuration please try the following:

1) Delete the folder %appdata%\Atmel\AtmelStudio\7.0\
2) Delete the folder %localappdata%\Atmel\AtmelStudio\7.0
3) Delete the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Atmel\AtmelStudio\7.0
4) Delete the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Atmel\AtmelStudio\7.0_Config
5) Delete the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Atmel\AtmelStudio\7.0_Remote
6) Go to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Studio\7.0\Extensions and if there are any folders with random names please delete them (These are extensions which are installed by user)
7) Run Command prompt as Administrator
8) From the command prompt run C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Studio\7.0\StudioInstallAgent.exe /uninstall
9) Again run from the command prompt C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Studio\7.0\StudioInstallAgent.exe /install
10) Start Atmel Studio

I followed the script, but when I tried point 8 I got the following error:

An unexpected error occured when importing the entries into registry. The /prepareregistry operation could not be completed.

I then tried to uninstall via the control panel and then a normal install. Unfortunately I ended up with the same result as before.

Are you running the Command prompt as administrator when trying Step 8 and 9?

What happened to

1) Install Visual Studio Isolated shell by double clicking on it
https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.c...

2) Install KB https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.c...

Did the above 2 steps work fine and everything installed successfully?

Charles

Not sure if this is related to your AS7 installation issue you're having. However, just thought I'd post in case it may help you or someone else:

I was having issues when I installed AS7 on my windows 10 machine. Uninstall/Reinstall kept not working (i.e., errors did not go away, and loading kept crashing)

I first uninstalled AS7, then used a Visual Studio Total Uninstaller to clean up visual studio stuff and then ran the standard AS7 setup and AS7 finally installed without giving me any of those errors I saw before.

You can get the Visual Studio Total Uninstaller from here:

https://github.com/Microsoft/Vis...

Tells you how to use it too.

Hope this gets you somewhere (just a thought, this may help)

10) Start Atmel Studio

I don't think that this will solve the issue, but I would add this to the list above for the sake of completeness.  It looks like the only thing in there is an AtPack database.

 2.5) Delete the folder %localappdata%\Atmel\AtmelStudio\7.0
