In AVR Studio, if I "read" the VTG on an atmega8 that is on the stk500, AVR Studio indicates that VTG is 5.1v. However, if I measure VTG on the stk500 - using a meter and measuring the potential between the GND and VTG pins on the expansion connector, it measures 4.92v. Am I missing something? Shouldn't these 2 values be the same - or at least closer? Perhaps the accuracy of my DMV may be +/- 0.2v?

I would guess that it is a bit of both. Your DMM is not perfect. When did you last pay for it to be professionally calibrated?
And Atmel publishes the tolerances of its AVR products.

Nothing in the world is perfectly accurate. You just have to agree an acceptable level.

I have to write 4.9V to read 5.0V back in Studio. I have never lost any sleep over it.
