I am having trouble installing Atmel Studio 7 on my Windows 7 computer.  It gets part way into the install then gives the following message: "Please install Windows update KB2999226" (see image 1)

But I can't install this because it was an update for windows 8(see image 2)

The release notes for Atmel Studio 7(which is an 85 page doc) said on page 18 that Windows 7 is a supported operating system as long as it has service pack 1 installed, which I do have.

Any ideas?

Can this work or Do I need to use Atmel Studio 6.2 on Windows 7??

AS7 works well with Win7, the problem you refer too has been very common (happened to me) but can't remember the fix, someone will come along shortly with good search skills and dig out the answer.

I did not have any problem with install on my computer Windows 7 x64
I builded the interface of Atmel Studio with Visual Studio Community 2015 x64 without problems...

Try install VS (if you want it), the installation of VS comes with some windows updates.

I attached an screen capture of my PC specs.

Cheers...

I had some issues, previously:

Update---I tried installing Studio7 on win7 again, but this time didn't select to install avr32 & ARM devices ..this time no windows upgrades were requested & it finished install & seems to be working (not sure if my selections had anything to do with success).  And it even recognizes the MKII, which seems to function (maybe those wonky USB driver issues are finally fixed).

When in the dark remember-the future looks brighter than ever.

Thank you for your suggestions, when I get around to working on that home computer again I'll try the ideas, that will probably be next week.

Atmel Studio 7 works fine on my Windows 10 work computer.

Same Problem ...

Win7 sp1, Atmelstudio 7.0.1645 offline Installer ...

I tried to install both updates (2999226, 2670838) manually, system says they are already installed...

tried to uncheck avr32 and smartarm and example projects, no change ... still get the error at installation ...

what was the solution/workaround ? and why is this so complicated ...

Check whether you picked the correct Windows update for your OS configuration\language from the screenshot it looks like you are looking for Windows 7 x64 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/...
