Hello everyone,

Do you know if I can power my board via the ISP (2*3 pin) connector?
If so, any caveats, other than not having the USB cable connected at the same time (not that it should be a problem).

Best regards, Martin

Surely, the User Manual describes the available powering schemes?

If in doubt, check the schematic.

Top Tips:

  1. How to properly post source code - see: https://www.avrfreaks.net/comment... - also how to properly include images/pictures
  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected

It would be very helpful for you to provide a link to the board documentation in the first place, or did you think we should do the work you obviously already have done. :/

I'll look it up, and get back to you with an answer.

That is not such a good idea.

Refer to Table 1-1. Default Configurations and section 4.1 Power Sources in the user guide for alternative power sources.  You will need to add 1x3 headers for J300 and J301 and select the power sources with 2 pin jumpers.

I recommend that you read the user guide in its entirety before you start making any important decisions such as this.

Sheesh, Larry - that's a bit radical, isn't it?!

Why so?  I think it is perfectly fine to recommend that the documentation be read in all cases.  Isn't it common that we recommend that the chip datasheets be read?  What makes this hardware any different in that regard.  It was just a recommendation, not an order.

The rest of the reply was spot on as the sections I pointed out target exactly how to correctly attach power to the entire board, not just the target mcu as per the OPs method.

Yeah, I think so too!  The best way to counter sarcasm is to be serious, I really did have a hard time writing that reply while laughing.  It's all good!  Signing off for the night, later guys!

EDIT: When I saw "Sheesh" I had to look again at who posted that, I thought it was Lee.

Were posts 3, 4, and 6 not on target enough?  The OP hasn't been back, feel like I'm wasting words.
