Hi All -

Well, the gauges (minimal as they were) on my diesel generator finally gave up the ghost last week. They were cheap Chinese mechanicals, so it's really no wonder they shook themselves to death :) So, I need to replace them.

But I don't simply want to bung in new mechanicals again, plus I want more information, on a nice clean backlit LCD. I suppose I could just buy replacement panel meters and automotive gauges, but where's the fun in that ? Besides which, that can get expensive ... This is an opportunity to have some fun, though you should hear my wife's comment to that

I originally had

Volts
Amps
Frequency
Oil pressure
Temp
Battery charging amps

I would like to add in oil temp, and change out the oil pressure sender for a more accurate one - the stock one was abysmal. Also, radiator temp as well as engine core temp instead of just temp.

So, anyone have any hints, things to look at first, stuff like that before I plunge in ?

Dean.

Embedded C Programming and the Atmel AVR book has as its example project B - creating a system to collect operational data for a stock car racer. This might be a starting point for you.
