Solder two wires between the power regulator and the USB-power and the NGW100 can be power directly from the host.

You will need a HUB or host able to provide 500 mA. Some simple measuring says the NGW100 will draw up to 300-350 mA.

PS! You do not need to solder the ground wire (yellow).

Did that with a mini switch glued to the bottom of the board, so I can select easily the power source.
Also, you just need one wire, the ground is shared with the USB casing...

Neat little mod !

Nice, if you are using the usb at all *smile*

Now what I would really like to see is power over ethernet hehe :)

My EVK1100 is running with power over serial, though I'd like to see a beefy serial port which can source 500mA for the NGW ;). The only pain with power over serial is the need for a few diodes and the fact that the appropriate lines (DTR and CD IIRC) only go high to power the board when the port's open.

This is a great idea.

Maybe the next board revision from atmel will provide the switch or at least a jumper to enable usb power to the board .
