New mobile phone adapters

Hi

I am designing a circuit that will be potentially used over europe. To ensure that a compatible power supply will be available in each country I was planning to use the new standard mobile phone cable as outlined in this website:

Im planning to use a micro USB connection on the PCB that is compatible. However, i would like to be sure that these chargers are available for purchase and are not soley made for/by the mobile phone companies at present.

Has anyone came across them or used them for a similar application?

I don't know about Europe, but my current Motorola phone uses a Micro-USB power connector.

I purchased the car power supply from Verizon, (Major USA cell phone carrier), as I could not easily locate a third party source, or a converter dongle.

Bummer as I have TWO other Motorola style home and car power supplies... (Now in the parts bin...)

JC,

Are you sure it's microUSB and not just miniUSB?

My Blackberry has miniUSB but this microUSB is apparently even smaller again.

I'll check, but I'm 99% sure.
After years with a simple push the buttons to make a call type phone, I finally upgraded with the Droid.

Lots more features, large screen, web browser, etc.

My old Motorola Razor used a mini-usb. My phone before that used a different Motorola flat-inline type connnector.

Perhaps Bob will see this, (as our Resident Freak Droid Developer), and verify the connector.

My google dev phone 2 usb looks like this in ascii

So they are different, and one is mini and one is micro, but I dont know which is which. And now we are no smarter than before.

Mine looks like this Micro-B photo from Wiki Micro USB.

(Angled on both sides of the Very Small rectangular connector).

Here's info on the "Universal Charging Solution" you were looking at:

Claims 80% of global market (total coverage of sponsors) is doing this.

Anyway, it's type A on the power supply end, and either micro-B or micro-AB on the device end, plus some power conditioning constraints.

Moto Droid uses micro b (has the 2 guides on the top) then I guess. Google dev phone 2 (google ion/htc ???) has a thicker connector, no guides, contacts on other side, and chamfer on one side only. (doesnt match any of those pictures)
