mEDBG released as Open Source? ATMega4809

Howdy!,

 

I recently read a rumor that Microchip was going to release the source code for the the mEDBG debugger chip on the UNO Wifi 2?

 

Has anyone else hear this news?

That would reveal the secrets of the debug part of UPDI. I would welcome it, but I don't believe they'll do it.

Hasn't Microchip PIC debug information has been available, historically speaking?  (One of the things that resulting is so many PICKit2 clones.)
Doing the same thing for AVR has been one of my hopes for the acquisition...

Maybe that's MPLAB X SDK.
