I'm looking for a good 20pin+ connector with a very small foot print. My plan was to use HDMI but the royalties are going to kill production. Maybe when I hit 100k mark it will not be that noticeable but I have a ways before I get there. I found some basic scsi cables that may work and there is the iphone connector but I'm hoping to find a few more option. obvious points of interest are low or no royalties, low cost, small size, and durable. Any ideas?

Also I can't find a definitive answer on this but why would one pay royalties on an connector if they are not using it for the said purpose? Just seems a bit of an over kill to make me pay 10k a year for using a connector not for the hdmi protocol.

Micro-D?

NorComp Micro-D Vertical PCB Mount (0.050" / 1.27MM - Pitch)

http://www.norcomp.net/rohspages/R380-Series-Micro-D.html

Frame: 29.7mm x 7.4mm x 8.3mm

Approx 18USD/one.

Couldn't quickly locate a durability spec.

Thx for the suggestion. Looking to be under 20 mm width. We did find this mirco DisplayPort and it seems not to require royalties.  This may be the one.
