Hi all,

I need add to existing networked Arduino PCB project 3+ ethernet ports.

2 ports for pass-thru cables (external MagJacks)
1 port is required for own networked device. (internal port wired with ENC28J60)

My first idea was use embbedded 3-4 or 6 ports ethernet switch in smart-IC.
(see attached image)

I need some low-cost IC 10/100mbit any experience or suggestions? VLAN or other features are not required.
I dont want control switch with MCU
could be a monoblock switch+cpu but I never see 2x ports version with internal port option.

Crack open the cheapest hub/switch you can find and see what chip they use.

something like a Realtek RTL8305?

@Kartman: Thank you for your reply. Seem to be you are only one who have hint on ETHERNeT IC ;)

I dont have cheap switch at home now.
Only BCMxxxx highly integrated IC or SOHO CISCO switches in warranty.

@hnhoan: this is not very helpfull for us.

I am not able select which are suitable
and working without additional CPU. I need IC which is working without additional parts.
few DYI components are accepted but programming next CPU is not wanted.

I'm pondering the same problem at the moment, but i'll probably go for oneof the parts with the mii interface as the lpc1769 needs a phy chip. Some of the devices can init themselves from an eeprom or via spi from a micro.

As to whether realtek will sell small quantities, i havent investigated this yet.

I don't quite sure understand what you want. Those company have MAC chip, MAC+PHY, CPU+MAC, Multport, I think CPU+MAC+PHY. And possible to buy small qty too. Those companies are network chipset manufacturer. If you want only CPU with builin MAC & Phy, there are Blafin from Analog Devices, Wiznet, Rabbit,...
Network chipse : Asix, Marvell, Vitess, Realtek, Ralink, SMC...

Marvell showed me an app note using 0ne MAC with 2 Phy last year. Don't recall what it was about. I though it might be usefull to you. Mavell is a major switch chipset vendor.

Ethernet has 2 parts a MAC and a PHY. Either the builtin single chip or separate. Then you need connectors & magnetics. There are connectors with mag inside called Magjack but those usually comes single. Multiport connector often does not have magnetic inside. You don't have a choice to have quite a few components.

I have used Micrel switches. No programming required.

@hnhoan:

I mean 3 or more MAC/PHY Highly integrated 10/100 ports switch IC.
Without programming any CPU which will handle Layer2 switching
This job I want leave on IC. Of course its not few components but 2x MagJacks and some DYI parts is still less then without sophisticated IC.

ATAN AT8985P
Micrel KSZ4482
Micrel KSZ8993 - 3 ports (datasheet pdf)
digi-key:6.04€
Realtek RTL8305sb 5 ports
Marvell 88E6031 - 3ports
are suitable now.
will be fine find multiport 2-3 connectors & magnetics now. RTL old model 2003 and KSZ4482 is hard to buy

update: added next chip

Micrel solution seems suitable. I completely forgot about them, yet I met them 2 months ago. Too busy with other things probably. :)
