I use an atmega 168 and 328. I have a need for a ADC that can handle a bit more than 10 bits. Anyone know of a chip that has the same pinout as the mega8/88/168/328 chips with a higher resolution ADC ?

Im not sure any tiny or megas have over 10bit ADC. I would poke through the xmega's

I looked at a few X mega and can not find a pin-out match so far.

Might this thread help?

Don't think you will find anything with a pin match.

There are xMegas with higher ADC bit counts (12?) but with very different pin layouts.
