Freaks,

Now that I have probably smoked my JTAGICE mkII, I may need to buy a couple of JTAGICE3s. I am running AS4 version 4.18 build 684. Is there anything I should look out for?

Thanks,

A.

The new debugger that may actually be better than ICE3 (remains to be seen but it offers full ARM support too).

Call me a cynic, but I am expecting quite a few 'features' before the 'new' debugger settles down.

Mind you, CMSIS-DAP seems to work fairly well with ARM chips. But AFIK, ARM developed the software rather than Atmel.

If you have an important project to complete, I would beg/borrow another mkII to use with AS4 until teething troubles subside.

David,

I would really like to repair the one I have. The difficulty is that it is a very small project on a very tight deadline. I could probably just bite the bullet and buy a replacement but if the III is 1/3 the price I'd rather save the coin.

At the moment I'm only involved with ATmega, Xmega and Atiny stuff and would be willing to move up from the AS4 if required.

Is the III so buggy that it should not be considered?

Thanks,

A.

Cliff,

What is the "new" debugger you are referring to?

This is the exact reason God invented search engines - there's been a lot of talk about it (or rather "them") in the last few days. Try "$85" as a search term.

The 2 are incompatible, JTAGICE3 only "works" with AS6.x

I have a jtag3 on a laptop at work with win7 and as6 and it works. I couldn't get it to work on xp with as6. Just get an avrisp for 5 to get the project going.

and it works
How did you go with the debugging side of things? No problem like many people are experiencing?

No problems with the compiler etc?

Or are you simply using it as a programmer?

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.
