I am having trouble programming my Tiny2313 with the JTAG Mk II. I have
previously used serial programming without problems. However my new
very fast desktop computer has NO serial ports!! I have seen this with
laptops but now desktops as well.

I followed the thread with BPar about setting the debugging platform. I have tried to set the DWEN fuse but I get the error as follows:

Getting Revisions OK
Reading Target voltage OK
Getting ISP Frequency paramaters FAILED

The the pop up says

Check that the ISP programming frequency is well below 1/4 clock.

I am using a 7.328 MHz crystal on my STK 500 and have tried setting the
frequency to just about everyone available.

If this is a problem of setting the DWEN fuse, how does one go about that
without a serial cable?

This is becoming quite frustrating so I would appreciate any help that can
be offered.

Thank you

Bob Parry

Hi:

The JTAG MKII is able to program the DWEN fuse.

You can get an USB to serial port cable or adapter, if you want to use your STK500.

Alex

I have 4 serial ports on mine, 2 are native on the MB and the other 2 are on a serial port card which also has an additional parallel port too. Have you considered getting a serial port card? In our line of work seems to be necessary to have real ports at times :)

I have got a Comtrol 4 port usb to serial convertor for my Laptop, but it was
not at the office and I was a little stunned to find the new Asus MB had no
serial ports. If we had known that I am sure that we would have specified
a different configuration.

So I will connect the usb-serial hub and try to program the DWEN fuse.

If I do that the JTAG should work??? I sure hope so.
