Hello, I have been using my JTAG ICE mkll to program the AVR microcontrollers. In user guide it has been given that when JTAG is used for Debugging even in stopped mode the I/O clk will be running, but when i single stepped my timer code the timer is increasing for every step. I have used internal clock for my timer. My question is "The timer is also working with the I/O clk obtained from the internal oscillator then how the JTAG controls it in single stepping ?.

There is an JTAG ICE option in AVR Studio labeled "Run Timers in Stopped Mode" It is normally disabled, so the timers will stop on every breakpoint. If you check that box, the timers will continue to run on breakpoints.

Debug->Select Platform and Device
Check "Open platform options next time debug mode is entered"
