JTAG ICE mkII works. JTAG ICE clone will not connect.

I have been using the JTAG ICE mk II for a year on this same project. We purchased a couple of LEDZ JTAG ICE ISP clones so we could have production AND engineering be able to debug the systems. Well, I can get the JTAG ICE into program mode both in the ICE and ISP mode. When I try to connect to the JTAG ICE in the debug mode, AVR studio says it can not connect. Does anyone have a solution for this? Is there a difference I am NOT seeing between the JTAG ICE and JTAG ICE mk II pinout that could be causing this problem? I really do think it is my problem, because LEDZ has not been able to come up with a solution and they have been quite helpful. I need to get this to work and I am going to turn the boards soon, so I need to get this working and get it into the turn.

Oh yeah, I am using an ATMEGA64. Both JTAG and ISP connections. Again, the JTAG ICE mkII works like a champ. The LEDZ JTAG ICE will not connect in debug mode but works in avr program mode (Both JTAG and ISP).

Are you sure the "Old Jtag" supports the M64 ??

They stopped adding support for new chips a while ago

In ISP mode? Is this an mkI or an mkII clone? The mkI didn't support
ISP at all (only JTAG), and I haven't heard about any mkII clones so
far. (And yes, Carsten, the ATmega64 is the smaller brother of the
ATmega128, so it would be supported by an mkI.)

What are your fuse settings? Could you try whether AVaRICE would
connect to it in debug mode (comes as part of WinAVR)? If you run
avarice with the -d option, it will tell you all the details of the
ICE communication, that might help debugging it.

I don't believe AVR Studio offers some kind of debugging aid for the
ICE communication, so beyond the few message you're seeing, it's
probably hard to know what's really going on there.

This clone is a mk I usb with ISP also.

SPIEN
BOOTSZ=00
BODLEVEL=1
CKSEL=1111
SUT=11
No lock bits.

I will try this. I have not ever used it. Sounds like it might help!

I finally got them to work. I reinstalled the USB drivers three times and the third time was the charm. I have been using USB to COM port dongles and the driver for those have caused other problems, so I blame them! Back to debugging. Thanks for the help.
