Hi, I am new to command line compilers. So, please is there a way to select default folder for source code? So I dont need to go all the way to my project dir? Thanks.

But on the command line the Makefile is (usually) going to be in the same directory as the source files so you just CD to that and "make"

If this bothers you why not wrap a GUI around GCC?

"Good" is subjective but there is of-course AVR Studio from Atmel.

As of January 15, 2018, Site fix-up work has begun! Now do your part and report any bugs or deficiencies here

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.

Personally I rather like the simplicity of Studio as an IDE (for simple projects) but to balance the odds I guess Insight, Code::Blocks, Programmers Notepad and Eclipse should also be mentioned as they can both be set up as front ends to avr-gcc

AVR Studio

Insight

Code::Blocks

Programmers Notepad

Eclipse

No doubt there are others.
