I have heard rumors that the AVRISP is going obsolete. The Atmel website has a AVRISP Mk2, but the mega323 is not on the list of supported devices. Digikey lists an AVRISP and AVRISP2, but neither of them are in stock.

What is going on? Is the AVRISP Mk2 available? Can it program all AVRs?

See:

http://www.atmel.com/dyn/product...

The 323 is now a "mature" product and not recommended for new designs which is presumably why the recently released AVRISP mkII does not support it as it is only for "current" devices - so that probably explains it absence from the list in AVR Studio help for AVRISP mkII

Presumably you are using 323 in a "legacy" product - not intending to use them for a new design? (for that Atmel appear to be recommending Mega32 as an alternative)

Yes, it is a legacy product that needs to be reprogrammed periodicly. More and more of these devices are not accepting the program. Atmel claims an endurance of 1000 cycles. I have not been counting, but I think I am closer to 30 cycles. If I need to replace the processor I will try the mega32. I thought I would try another programmer first.
