Doing a lot of development/test cycles with my STK500 and a ATMega16.

About 1 in 3 times on loading the .hex I get an ISP frequency error. Once I've got it, a repeat attempt always fails until I use the 'Erase the device' button - then it's guaranteed to load OK.

Programming frequency is 57.6Khz, STK set at 3.xMhz and ATMega 16 running on a 16Mhz crystal on the STK500

I never get the error if I just change the .eep by itself.

It's a PITA, since if I erase the devise so that I can load the .hex, I have to reload the .eep and that takes about 10 seconds (for 432 bytes of eeprom, that seems a very long time?)

Any clues? TIA, Martin

I've noticed this with the AVRISP and STK.

It will almost never happen if you manually erase the device first then program. My guess is that there's a timing issue there. In my experience, changing the ISP programming frequency has no effect.
