Hi All,

So I've wired up a fresh ATTINY85 on a breadboard and connected it to my AVR ISP programmer.  I wired up the MISO etc. programming pins on the 6 pin programming header to those on the ATTINY.  When I go to download a simple program from AtmelStudio 7 I get the error message shown in the attached screenshot.  Can anyone advise on what is wrong?

Thank you,

Fastwalker.

No power? (It looks that only the middle LED is on on your AtmelICE.)

Does the ATTINT85 need separate power input, or can it be powered from the ISP header?

ICE does not provide "target" power, it must be supplied by you.

You should also have a bypass cap 100nf across VCC/GND with leads as short as possible.

OK I'll make these improvements and re-test when I get into the office.

OK, I got the setup working now, solid 5V external supply was the missing element.  I was expecting to be able to have full source level debugging working via the ICE however.  When I go to compile and debug, I get this error message below.  Is this some limitation of the ATTINY85, or is something else in play?

You need to switch from ISP to debugWIRE.

Thanks @ezharkov, with that change I now have debugging fully working.
