From a datasheet for an IC:

Quote:

"¢ Do not burn, destroy, cut, crush, or chemically dissolve the product.
"¢ Do not lick the product or in any way allow it to enter the mouth.

(It contains GaAs, so I guess the arsenide is deadly.)

I imagine you'd better not smoke it in California either, eh?

And certainly "do not take internally."

We build industrial control panels where I work. Once assembled, they are moved to the testing area and mains power is connected. A sign is usually placed on/near the main disconnect switch warning that the panel is "live". On projects that my boss is involved with this sign reads something like: "Warning: High Voltage - Do Not Lick"

Letting the smoke out since 1978

I've just added the following to a book I'm writing on caring for Coupe Fiats:

Quote:
However, neither the authors nor the publisher can be responsible for any event which may occur as a result of you attempting any of the procedures in this book. If you damage your car or yourself, or your dog bites you, or you just have a bad day -- it's not our fault!

It's based on something I saw years ago... not sure if it will be there after final editing but I hope so.

I always thought the intro/disclaimer in Smokey's original C book was the best.

Ages ago, I worked for a pretty big manufacturing company with multiple buildings scattered all over town.

If you went in one plant the back way, you walked between the yellow lines in a fairly dark room with noisy and scary equipment on both sides. Then you came to a wall and the yellow path made a right turn. Right there, on the wall, was a frightening industrial looking warning sign that said:

WARNING
CLOTHING MUST BE WORN IN THIS AREA

If you don't know my whole story, keep your mouth shut.

Thats a worning if I ever saw one...

As of January 15, 2018, Site fix-up work has begun! Now do your part and report any bugs or deficiencies here

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.

Well, before the EPA came along, it was just "not recommended," but now it's a crime.

Environmental Protection Agency: They're the guys that convince Congress to do things like ban light bulbs, then issue all the regulations on what you need to do if you break a florescent. Then tell you you can't build out in the desert 'cause it's a wetland.

Yep, both on the political and religious front! Some people don't understand coffe.

Of course that's one of the reason why I'm not likely to visit the US, the other is being broke!

I vaguely remember a software installer warning that said something like "This software is guaranteed to take up space on your hard disk".

When I still worked, our product safety people said that there were no ladders shorter than 2 feet -- because there was not enough room for the warning labels!

But, you don't need a warning if the danger is obvious(!) That's why chainsaws don't have labels telling you to that the fast moving sharp part is dangerous :)

The coffee note goes back to a lawsuit against McDonalds. The original amount was astronomical. It was eventually backed down to merely awful.

You mean chain saws DON'T have a label telling you not to try to stop the chain with hands or genitals?

OH No! The spell checker suggested "Gentiles."

Lock Out, Tag Out. And history shows that somebody will STILL turn the power back on!
