Hi all
I am currently building ESP8266 & Adafruit IO based home automation system using MQTT & by far it is working as expected. The ESP8266 is programmed using Arduino IDE.
The main concern here is,how secure the whole MQTT system is?I mean what is the maximum vulnerability of the system as well as the private side network without any security implemented(SSL/TLS etc)??

MQTT meaning

Well, 50% is better than nothing.

Without TLS (transport layer security, formerly known as SSL)

you have no security beyond your ability to completely keep

bad actors out of your network.

Anyone who can watch the traffic to/from your devices can

learn how to control them and just copy/paste the actions they

want to accomplish.  Like turning your lights off while you are

in the bathroom.  The damage is limited to what you hook up

to the network.  So don't leave your thermostat connected to

it during your winter holiday or you may return to your house

with burst frozen pipes.

Setting up TLS is nearly impossible.  I don't just mean it's hard.

Even the largest companies with billions at stake can't do it.

The Internet of Things is just a unicorn.
