Start Hyperterminal. Set it up to use the COM port that is attached to the AVR, and set the parameters (baud rate, parity etc) to the same that the AVR firmware is using (ie. 9600, ...).

Did you try to start Hyperterminal and see what options there are? Did you find any Hyperterminal documentation?

As of January 15, 2018, Site fix-up work has begun! Now do your part and report any bugs or deficiencies here

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.

Hi,
It seems you are using Bascom.
Then the simpliest way is to use terminal from Bascom IDE.
In Bascom choose Menu-Tools-Terminal emulator.
In Terminal-Settings set COM port and baud.

Are you talking about the AVR end or the PC end? If the AVR end then look at the Tutorial Forum where you'll find examples of using the UART.

If the PC end I'll move this to Off Topic forum where you will also find a lot of prior traffic on the subject of writing comms aware PC applications for Windows or Linux (C# seems to be suggested quite often for Windows PCs)

In BASCOM Help are some examples how to read on AVR the characters send by PC.
Hint: Inkey, Ischarwaiting
